چکیده

The biochemical agent involved in adhesion to epithelial cells of chicken crop, by a specie-specific Lactobacillus salivarius strain, was isolated and characterized. Cells of L. salivarius A23 strain were able to autoaggregate in spent broth or in sterile bidistilled water and to adhere to chicken crop epithelium, as observed by optical and scanning electron microscope. The time required for cell aggregation demonstrated that this phenomenon follows a second order kinetic. Crop epithelia and bacterial cells were differently treated to remove the adhesion agent. Chaotropic substances and detergents did not permit strain autoaggregation, but maintained the ability to adhere. Electrophoretic and chromatographic analysis of the specific molecule, individuated by the partial purification of adhesion determinant, allowed to estimate its molecular mass as 58 KDa and 200 KDa in denaturating and native conditions, respectively; such compound appeared to be a protein.

In vitro evaluation of the probiotic potential of Lactobacillus salivarius SMXD51.

Lactobacillus salivarius SMXD51 was previously isolated from the cecum of a Tunisian poultry and found to produce a bacteriocin-like substance highly active against the foodborne pathogen Campylobacter jejuni. The aim of this study was to examine some probiotic properties of the strain: acid and bile tolerance, capacity of adhesion, stimulation of immune defences (IL-6, IL-8, IL-10 and β-defens...

Inhibitory Effects of Lactobacillus salivarius and Lactobacillus crispatus Isolated from Chicken Gastrointestinal Tract on Salmonella enteritidis and Escherichia coli Growth

Probiotics are live cultures of microbes; often lactic acid bacteria, but also some other species, which when fed to animals, improve their health and growth through altering the intestinal microbial balance. In the present research, healthy chickens’ gastrointestinal (GI) tracts were screened for the presence of lactic acid bacteria with probiotic properties. The probiotic properties of the is...

Evaluation of lactic acid bacteria isolated from poultry feces as potential probiotic and its in vitro competitive activity against Salmonella typhimurium

The efficacy of probiotics as alternatives to antibiotics has been defined as one of the potential strategies to prevent Salmonella spp. infection in poultry. The purpose of this study was to isolate probiotic native Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) with high compatibility to intestinal tract and prevention of Salmonella typhimuriumfrom broiler chicken feces. Thirty-seven samples of...

Genome sequence of Lactobacillus salivarius NIAS840, isolated from chicken intestine.

Lactobacillus salivarius is a well-known lactic acid bacterium to which increasing attention has been paid recently for use as probiotics for humans and animals. L. salivarius NIAS840 was first isolated from broiler chicken feces, displaying antimicrobial activities against multidrug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium. Here, we report the genome sequence...

Heterophil Phagocytic Activity Stimulated by Lactobacillus salivarius L61 and L55 Supplementation in Broilers with Salmonella Infection

Newborn chicks are susceptible to Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis (SE). The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of Lactobacillus probiotic isolated from chicken feces on heterophil phagocytosis in broiler chicks. A total of 150 newborn broiler chicks were divided into 5 groups (30 chicks per group) as follows: group 1 (normal control), given feed and water only, group 2 (...
